Fished Chartiers Creek this morning on a Recon trip with Ted and Mickey.
Place: Chartiers Creek
Where: Bridgeville Sourrounding areas
Water Temp: 68-73
Water Quality: Murky
Baits Used:
- WeeCraws
- Grubs
- Fly Rod / Minno Streamers (Ted)
- Flies

Fishing was execellent. We hit the water by 8:30AM and fished till about 11:30am. The first spot was amazing. We crushed the smallmouth on weecraws non stop. Smallies ranged from 1 to 2lbs. Nice smallmouth's and great fights.
We moved to a new section of the stream and caughgt a few there aswell.

I have photos and videos that I will upload tomrrow moring.s

Great trip and thanks to Mickey and Ted for showing up a hour early and waiting for me....

WV Fishing Discovery 5-2009

Fished Tygart River in West Virgina over the past weekend and I was very impressed with the fishery that has been in that area. I've been traveling to the spot for a few years now as a mini vaca to get away from the daily grind with to enjoy a nice weekend away with the GF.

To my surprise last trip I found it harvest some nice fishery.

I didn't do the greatest farther into town although bait and timing might played a factor. I've seen allot of locals fishing in these spots so there has to be something I'M not seeing. I'll save that for another day but now the focus in on the out flow of the dam. I saw a local fishermen reeling in nice breeder trout. I'M out to find myself some nice ones this weekend.

Montour Run 10/27/08

Fished Montour Run Monday with small success. Fishing was slower than expected and trout were scattered throughout the stream.
I hoped to get to the starting point of the stream and see them stocked up but sadly they weren't.
The color of the stream had a nice murky glow that wasn't enough for me to have a great day of fishing.
I started from the Brothers Grim hole and walked most of the stream to the Gun Club.
The weather was chilly and the wind was a pain.
I tried out a new pair of waders and my new steelhead fishing Rod.

Stealing Montour Run

NO! Your not actually going to steal the stream...
The fish that Ly within the stream are a steal for your creel! October is a great time of the year to hit local PA streams and catch trout. Most streams in Western, PA are stocked with Trout and can provide great fishing locally. Single Eggs, Sucker Spawn, and Spinners can be a hot ticket around this time.
Get out and fish and enjoy the fairly warm weather before the cold snow hits!

Steelhead Trip Planned

2 Weeks and I hope that I will be catching monster steel.
Rain has hit today and I hope it keeps up.
More details to come when it gets closer.

I recieved my Nymph Pimp strike indicators from West Water Products. I was very impressed with their shopping cart and how smooth everything worked.
The Nymph Pimp appears to be a better product than the Thingmabobber. I think I may need to put in a order to get a small size of the Thingmabobber.

Also will be the first hook up on my new custom St. Croix steelhead Rod!

Sunny - Polarized Sunglasses

5 Day forecast is showing sun, sun and sun. October is a strange month because next week we could end up with Frost in the morning and flurries. Anyway its an exciting time of the gear to fish. Trout are normally being stocked locally and the steelhead get there pre-runs if we have rain.

With the sun and nice weather I wanted to Feature Polarized Sunglasses as my hit for the day. Thanks to Dicks Sporting Goods for the Graphic below. I hardly ever fish without my polar sunglasses no matter what the weather is. They help improve site fishing and make it more exciting for the avid angler.

10/5/08 Montour Run

Checked out Montour Run yesterday.Decent amout of fish after the stocking with about 20 some fishermen on the stream. Extremely low and clear. Too clear to fish...
I fished for a bit and then gave up and just walked the stream and just enjoyed the view. I did some chumming w/ single eggs and enjoyed the stocked trout murder. LOLDidnt fish them ... just watched it.

Montour Run Stocked

I logged onto PA Fishing website thinking that Montour was going to be stocked at the end of December but it turned out it was stocked yesterday. Super excited! :)

This means I need to alter my plans for the rest of the week and figure out a way to get on the streams before the end of the week. I hope to get ou totday...

4-20-08 Montour Run

Sunday fishing wasn’t supposed to happen and thank god it did.
We had ideal conditions on the stream which landed me the PRIZE. I caught my fist golden trout on single eggs drifting the current in the fast twitch of the stream. Threw a few eggs and saw the Golden rise and I knew it was my calling J
FISH ON!

I was fishing alone and I didn’t have a net so I took my time. No one was around to take a pic so I used the self time on the camera to catch a pic of my beauty.
I also had a hellva day period with other trout. Catching over 10 fish for the day. Most of the trout were bigger than normal stockies.
I even landed a Smallmouth which was unusual.

4-12-08 Fist Day Of Trout

Let it begin!!!
The first day of trout is now underway and it was a great day.
Over 30+ fish were caught for the RF team on the day.
Some anglers reported great results and some didnt. The conditions started out murky and cloudy which switched to great conditions for late afternoon.
Doug landed his first Golden Trout and I had one on that got off.

4/6/08 Chartiers Creek

Fished Chartiers Creek yesterday afternoon.
Trip was great along with some great weather.
Caught 1 sucker on a crawler. Fishing was expected to be alot better but it wasnt.
The water was moving fast and mostly murkey which I normal for that place.
I hope to get back down there this week and land some smallmouths.

Tis the season....

Trout next weekend! :)

Finally got my new YACK!
Almosted settled for Gander Mountain thinking they had the better deal but Dicks prevaled in the end.
Here she is!

The trip was cold and windy. 15mph winds at the least!

It's been way to long since I hit the water and I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Monday's high is suppose to be in the 50's.
IM looking to be out fishing in the next 2 weeks.

Haven't been fishing in while. Appears the "Cabin fever" season has set in.
I love to catch steelhead but the weather keeps me in doors.
I normally take up skiiing this time of the year in which I have.

If we get a some warm weather spats I will hit the water but until this I just hang out.
Good time to work on the website.

Hope to get some big plans for RF in 08.

Fishing has been slow for me because I havent gone!
Fishing is needed but with certain events going on I havent got out.

Hopefully the Month of December brings me some prizes! :)

Fished the almight Pickrel Hole. Fished from 10am till about 11:30am.

Fishing was great for late season! I caught 5 pickrel, a bass and perch.

FIshing was normally faster and better but considering how late in the season it wasnt bad.

The pickrel were normal size and as usual put up a good fight.

11-5-2007 - Chesapeake Bay

Fished the bay out of Crisfeild on Monday and CRUSHED the fish.My uncle and I both probally caught 50 fish each. All Rock fish, Blues and one flounder.We fished the shallows for rock around islands.. I caught one nice rock.We used mostly light tackle for the fish. I took my Bass rod and reel. Put 20lb braided line on it (cajun).Good trip...Didnt get to many pics because I was to busy catching fish. I wanted to Fish Friday, Saturday, and Monday but weather was not in our favor.Friday and Saturday the coast had gale force windows 75mph + - monster seas. Monday was like glass.... almost like the Coon.We fished the wrecks... It's a monster 50ft naval battleship they sunk in the bay. It harvest monster trout, rock, drum and flounder.I caught some blues and tons of snags. We didnt fish it long... the tide was messed up.

Erie Steelhead Trip 10-15-07

Took the boat to Erie Monday and it was one hellva trip! The boat did great other than some minor setbacks: The rod holds did not hold up to the hype and some minor motor issues.
The motor issues where small. I didnt give the gas tank enough ventalition so it looked like a squeezed prune when Doug found it. When gunning the speed I was loosing power.
After the fix it was working fine.
Not much I can say for the rod holders other than $15.00 and you get what you paid for.
Caught some nice steel.
I think we finshed 6 for 16 or something. We missed tons.
The boat held up great but ran into some bad weather coming home...

10/2/07 - Ohio River Trip

Fished the Ohio river for about 4 hours Tuesday and caught 1 fish.
It was the same size of my stinking lure!
Not sure what is going on with the fishing this point on the river other than we are
in dire need of rain.
I fished the back channel of nevile island.

This weather needs to change before fishing is going to be good.

9-24-07 - First Boat Trip of Summer

Fished the Ohio river Monday with RICK on the boat! Yes the first successfull trip of the summer. My boat went into the shop around the first of June and I just got my boat back last week. $379.00 Dollars later I am back!!!

Great trip even thought we didnt catch a damn thing!

9/18/07 - Mouth of Montour

Fished the mouth of Montour yesterday evening w/ my Dad. Fishing flat out sucked... Caught 3 tiny tiny fish. Skip Jack, Smallmouth and Sauger. The sauger was the size of my Husky Jerk. Not sure why fishing was slow.. We fished minnows, Crayfish (live and fake), and plastics. Once again lots of people fishing but no one catching much.

9/13/07 Mouth of Montour

Fished the mouth of Montour

yesterday evening w/ my Dad.
Fishing was steady, caught lots of fish. We stopped at Neville Island to get minnows and thank god we did. I used plastic baits and lost 3 of my best lures on snags. Husky Jerk, Rebble Craw and

another big Rappla.

We both caught tons of Small mouths, Skipjacks and I caught one baby Saguer. Most of the fish were small in size but a fun trip.

9/7/2007 Chartiers Creek Fishing

Fished Chartiers from 6:30pm till about 8pm with Johny Sloan.

The night didnt start off with a bang in respect to my traps.

So I walked up to the first minnow trap and told johny I thought I had a trout in it. Sure enough it was a snake. After I pull it out of the water its not 1 snake but 6!

So fishing wasnt off to a great start for us after only getting about 5 minnows and 3 crayfish. I would have had more minnows if the snakes didnt eat all my minnows.

All I wanted was Johnny Sloan to catch some fish and I succeeded. We both caught some smallmouth bass. He actually caught the monster of the day. See pic Below.

Good trip! Hope to get out next week!

Live Fish'n Fever Cam Future

Well what sparked my reformat of my blog was my plan to go video.
I plan on getting a web cam and starting to stream LIVE from the water.

?how key is that?

Well soon to be with a few purchases down the road I'll be streaming live.

Plans are in the works still but this is sort of the birth of the blog.

Minnow / Crayfish Traps

Set minnow traps last night around 8pm on Montour Trail in front of the Marriott.
For most of the summer I was setting my traps at the bottom of Mahoney Road in Oakdale and my numbers in my traps have been getting slim.
I tried this new spot to see what it would bring and I hope this evening when I go pick up my traps I find some nice surprises.

I noticed how many shiners (shinners! haven't caught many shiners in my traps all summer. It's mostly been chubs!)
I also noticed allot more crayfish when setting my traps. I really hope we get some of those!

9-4-07 Chartiers Creek

Fished Chartiers Creek w/ My dad today near Bridgeville. Caught about well over a dozen fish together. My Dad caught most of his using a night crawler. I was using the good old WEEEEEEEEE craw and it tore it up! Smallmouth’s where the only thing biteing. The smallies where strange looking. They had more of a sunfish body shape to them. Instead of being longer the were fat and stubby. New spot wasn’t bad but depth and rain played a factor. It would be killer trout stream if they stock it. Probably go back to Chemtech spot Thursday w/ Sloany. Looking to fish mouth of Montour with live bait on Tuesday…. Traps will be out tomorrow.
